Xbox One Without Kinect - Not Happening

Microsoft Reps Say a Kinect-Less Version of Xbox One is Not Happening
Major Nelson (Aka Larry Hyrb): Says No Plans for Kinect-less Version of Xbox One and Microsoft is 100% behind Kinect 2.0: Reddit
Microsoft PR man Albert Penello goes a step further with his statement regarding a SKU Version of Xbox One Without Kinect:
"Are we listening and adjusting the plans? We are. Are we making some concessions in areas where people have strong feelings? We are.
Are we altering our vision or losing faith? No.
We made one policy decision that was a major reversal around digital rights vs. physical media. It was the only time major features were changed, like family sharing, and some of the online check-in stuff that was related to it. It was the right call.
If you go back to the Unveil and E3 conferences, today's announcement doesn't change or diminish what we've said we were doing at all. All we said today is that we weren't going to brick the box if Kinect was unplugged. People making a leap thinking that means we've completely disconnected Kinect from the system would be wrong.
Once you guys experience the console, some of the criticisms may be valid, and many won't. The controller will not be the best way to navigate the dash - things like instant switching, snap mode, sign-in, and search are going to be vastly superior with Kinect. There is no controller UI that will beat "Xbox, Snap Skype", or "Xbox, Go to Killer Instinct".
The idea that the controller is the best way to navigate makes sense in reference to Xbox 360, but it's not true in Xbox One. You can completely control the dash with a controller, but many cases are deprecated versions of how it will work with voice.
If we were to remove Kinect from the bundle, then THAT would be a 180... but it's not going to happen. This was a very minor policy change, for people who had privacy concerns or repair issues. As someone earlier stated, my guess is that very few people will take advantage of the feature. But knowing it's there as an option is important. Why Disconnect Kinect? Miss Teen USA – Baby Monitor Hacked

Microsoft recently announced that the Xbox One will work without Kinect being plugged in.  This gives users the peace of mind that they can remove their Kinect if they have strong privacy concern issues.  And the news is probably welcome to a few players who may have read some stories recently in the press about multiple devices being hacked into and used as spy devices. In this commentary, The Red Dragon covers a couple of stories that were recently printed.  One involves Miss Teen USA having her webcam hacked into without her knowledge, and the other is about two parents who walked into their babies room to hear a stranger talking to their baby from the baby monitor.
Excerpt from Miss Teen USA Hacked:  Cassidy Wolf should be on top of the world after being crowned Miss Teen USA Saturday in the Bahamas. But the 19-year-old is using her newfound fame to reveal a very dark private struggle.
Four months ago, Wolf, a California native, was notified that someone had tried to log into her Facebook account from a different state. Shortly after, she received an anonymous email from someone claiming to have hacked into the webcam on the computer in her bedroom. The stalker tried to extort the teen saying the photos would not be made public in return.
"I wasn't aware that somebody was watching me [on my webcam]," Wolf, who was targeted before she'd won her national title, told Today.com. "The light [on the camera] didn't even go on, so I had no idea."
Instead of giving in to the threats, the teenager went to the authorities, who are now investigating the case. Because it is under federal investigation Wolf cannot reveal what types of photos were taken of her, or what the person tried to extort, though she did tell Fox News they captured things a person does "in the privacy of their own room," when they're not expecting to be watched.

Xbox One Kinect Not Required

Xbox One Kinect Not Required - Will Work if Not Plugged In. A Xbox One News update discussing a recent Q&A on IGN with Xbox Co-President Marc Whitten on the Kinect.
Since Kinect must be plugged in for the Xbox One to function, what happens if your Kinect breaks? Like if it falls off the top of your TV onto a hardwood floor or something? Will the console cease to function?
WHITTEN: Xbox One is designed to work with Kinect plugged in. It makes gaming better in many ways -- from the ability to say "Xbox On" and get right to your personalized homescreen, to the ability to control your TV through voice, Smartglass and more. Kinect allows you to search for your content, instantly move between games and your personalized dash and more with just your voice. Kinect helps you pick up and play by automatically knowing which controller you have in your hands. No more need to interrupt your friends game or navigate through multiple UI screens to sign in and tell the system which controller you are holding. It will even bind the controller to the console if its currently unbound -- no searching for special buttons! Of course -- these are just a few of the system wide benefits of having Kinect. Games use Kinect in a variety of amazing ways from adding voice to control your squad mates to adding lean and other simple controls beyond the controller to full immersive gameplay. That said, like online, the console will still function if Kinect isn't plugged in, although you won't be able to use any feature or experience that explicitly uses the sensor.
